This set of two circuits from the basis for a very simple light wave transmitter. A LASER beam is modulated and then aimed at a receiver that demodulates the signal and then presents the information (voice, data, etc..). The whole thing is very easy to build and requires no specialized parts execpt for the LASER itself. LASERs are available from MWK Industries.

Notes

  1. In the transmitter schematic, no ballast resistor is shown because most small LASER power supplies already have one built in. Yours may differ, and a resistor may be needed.
  2. The receiver should be kept away from bright lights. You may want to put a piece of wax paper in front of Q1 to keep the LASER from swamping it.
  3. In order to get any decent amount of modulation, you may need to drive T1 with more then a watt.
  4. The circuit can be made to transmit computer data with the use of two modem chips.

i am trying to demonstrate this transmission as my 1st semester project. i build-up the transmitter using 555-timer circuit and receiver as u mentioned but its quite not working. I had used l14f1 qt840 photo-transistor; is it appropriate to use it? what you suggest me to do? i try to get the audio transformer of 8-2000 ohms but i couldn't get it on market which one can replace it?

is there a class of laser that is needed? like a minimum of a class BII?

i am using the same concept to modulate a red laser at 2.5khz and recieve it 100m with a light sensor to count a hit or a miss. The problem is that it works fine in the dark but with sunlight it doesnt..any idea as to WHY???(is my laser getting saturated(decreased intensity) or is it the noise due to the sunlight?) any ideas on how to solve this problem?? can i get an off-the-shelf laser TX/Rx module that is immune to daylight with 100m range??

i need help for my project. i have two analog signals to send (i must use 2 transmitter device and 1 receiver device : according to the project) so i dont know how can i spread at the end of receiver.

the circuit its work but if you need some more special aplication so need a more sophisticated circuit . this is a very basic circuit to show how it works the theory . don be ox

Why not simply wire the audio signal through the batteries of a pen-laser, and pick them up on a small solar panel soldered to RCA jacks? Does the same job for $10...I built one years ago after reflecting a laser off a window, receiving it on a solar panel, and realizing that the sound I picked up was just the modified wavelength of the beam...It was the sound of my family talking inside!

FIRST:IF YUO WANT TO TRANSTIMT VOICE OR A SIGNAL YUO NEED TO MODULATE..DE LASER BEAM ITS ONLY A CAREER..SEAR FOR AM OR FM ..ITS THE SEAME BUT WITH LIGTH SECOND :I THINK THAT YUO CAN DO THIS WHIT A CHEAP LASER POINTER, MODULATED WITH A 555 ..AND STUFF LIKE THAT 3:FOR ALL OF YUO THAT DONT UNDESTAND ..THAT I REALLY RECOMEND TO LEAR ELECTRONICS..AND REALLY THE FORREST MIMS iii COLECTION BOOKS (ALL STUFF FROM RADIOSHACK)ARE REALLY COOL..A LOT OF IMPRESIVE CIRCUIT AND VERY SIMPLE...WELL LIKE OTHERS OF CORSE 4:I AGREE THAT PLAY WITH LASER TUBE , HIGH POWER LASER ..ITS A LITTLE RISKI..JAAA..SO..LEANR FIRST AND PLAY BEFORE.. BE THE WAY...TRANSMIT DATA WITH LASER HAVE SOME PROBLEMS:THEY NEED TO BE COLIMATED ..YUO KNOW LIKE A LINE AND A TARGET ... SORRY BUT I DONT SEE ANY MODEM IN THE MATERIALL LIST...:U1,U2 ARE VERY COMONE CHIPS AND CHEP TOO, AND AUDIO TRANSFORMER ITS NOT A MODEM.. THE CIRCUIT ITS NICE ..BUT I DONT KNOW THAT ITS REALY WORKS...REALY I DONT KNOW NOTHING!!BYE HUMANS...
