Hey guys....
I need to make a device which can tap the incomin telephone line and connect to the computer .... to display the telephone no. and map it to its corresponding account. any ideas?

And for that matter, if you have a voice capable modem in your PC, you can record:

-messages
-phone calls
-caller ID
-numbers dialed
-etc. etc.etc.

I use software called Call Soft as my answering machine in combination with a voice modem.

There is also software out there that can listen for the caller id info from the recorder adapter microphone and translate this audio to the caller id information. Also will do DTMF tones for outgoing calls. This is kinda neat I think because the info can be read off of a replayed audio track at a later date.

There are many commercial caller ID terminals with serial ports. A lot easier/cheaper then making your own.
