Posted - Dec 24 2002 : 05:37:32 AM I'm still tossing up in my head where would be the best place to get oil from to feed the turbo. basicly I was thinking either from the oil preasure senor spot, have a 'T' piece in their and have it coming from there. Or, have it coming from one of the oil cooler lines, like put a 'T' section in one of those (i have to get them remade anyway). Any thoughts on which way would be best? I'm leaning towards have a 'T' section in one of the oil cooler lines since I have to get them remade anyway and I doubt it'd cost much more to have it made with a T piece. Where has everyone else got their oil feed from?

Posted - Dec 25 2002 : 7:07:46 PM I think your right, tapping the banjo bolt ontop of the cooler sounds like the best option.

Posted - Dec 25 2002 : 11:54:59 AM My oil line also faces forward coming off the turbo. Should be visible on the conversion page. I zip-tied the lines to my intercooler pipe.
I would be wary of T-ing into the cooler lines. It's unnecessary, and will simply be another failure point. Serious PITA to remove the lines and take them back for the repair, even if it is under warrenty.
The oil feed is the line that comes from the front cover. It would be the easiest to tap that banjo bolt since it is directly on top of the cooler with lots of space.

Posted - Dec 24 2002 : 8:41:02 PM Hrmm... interesting idea with the banjo bolt.. I'll have a chat to the guys at my fabrication place that are doing the hoses for me. They usually garuntee their jobs, so the vibration issue shouldn't be much of a concern. I also don't have the standard oil feed fitting into the turbo, the one I have points towards the front of the turbo (I really have to get some pics to explain this) so I've decided that the T into the preasure sensor would require too much line running to it anyway..
Now, with these oil lines, which one feeds the oil cooler and which one is the return to the engine? I'm guessing the one that goes to the front cover goes into the 'cooler and the banjo bolt at the rear of the engine is the return to the engine?

Posted - Dec 24 2002 : 11:24:59 AM Well, there are a number of places:
1. T into the pressure sensor. It's easy, but it is after the pressure regulator, and will take a small amount of oil from the engine. I don't like doing this.
2. Modify the oil cooler. I did this since I needed to have it repaired anyway. I had the rad shop (who was repairing the cooler...I hate welding aluminium) add a bung. Was convenient for me, but probably not for you.
3. Modify oil cooler hose. I don't like this. Lots of vibration in those hoses, and it adds yet another coupler to leak. Definitly could be done though.
4. Drill and tap the banjo bolt at the cooler. I wish I had thought of this earlier. Simply drill a hole in the top of the bolt head, then tap for your fitting. Very easy, and doesn't require you to modify anything. Also doesn't take oil from the engine, since it will be before the pressure regulator.
The disadvantage with all these options is that you are feeding your turbo unfiltered oil. Has not been a problem for me yet.
