Well, its really not motor troubles as it is i cant find a motor. I have an old mower but its a vertical motor. Then i found 3 other motors but they too are vertical. I dont live by a junkyard. Any1 have any ideas or ideas on how to use a vertical motor.

what are you trying to do with the motor. If its a go cart, you could use some fancy gears.

Try looking for a lawnmower repair shop (small motor repair shop?) there you could probably find a cheap motor.

Another suggestion would be to go to a farm supply store (tractor supply) or industrial supply (Harbor Freight) Usualy you can find motors at those types of stores for reasonable prices (new of course) The benifit of this would be that it would be reliable, also consider that there is probably a good reason that the lawnmower is at a junk yard so you may spend more refubishing it and maintaining it than if you bought a new one.

Lastly, I would suggest the local classifieds and garage sales.

While it is possible to convert a vertical shaft engine to horizontal, it is a major project and quite annoying, so it's generally not worth it.

As suggested, surplus is the way to go. Farm supply places normally have some used engines. Lawnmower repair shops will probably charge a premium.
