For a very simple hovercraft, could I just get a cheap vinyl raft from Wal-Mart, inflate it, turn it upside down cut a hole in the bottom layer of vinal and plumb the leaf blower in that hole to get my lift?
Or should I turn it upside down and poke bunch of holes in the new bottom ring of vinyl all the way around and plumb the blower into this?

Directly through would probably be your best bet. It seems to me that you would loose too much pressure going through the inside of the wall of the raft. The raft is just a container for your pressure bubble anyway.

backyardasenal.com has a good diagram for a hovercraft. hovercrafts are vicles that use a thin layer of air to reduce friction to almost none so it can glide over surfaces. yes, you could use it on theoretically any terrain, but a hommade one probably cant clear 3 foot boulders. they are mainly used on water because it doesn't wear out the skirt as mough, but still the skirt should last a long time. they do go forward, just have a prop pushing it (since there is low friction, you don't need alot of power to make you moove, a small hovercraft, say 2'x4' could bepowered by a 25cc weed wacker motor) and off you go.

thanx, when u say, use a prop to make it go foward. what do i do? just give it a little push off the ground and off it goes? or do i continually have to push off... also, would it go fast?
i basically want to build one because my hobby is building things and i am intigued by this hovercraft business. so does the hovercraft go on water, up and down hills and on ovals and stuff? i want it to go and i wouldnt have to do anything exept steer. also, how does the steering work? do i just lean to one side or something? so please answer ALL my questions (sorry if that sounds bossy)
thanx alot!!!

A prop is not a stick, like it sounds like you think it is. It is a propeller. And as said before, many of your questions have been answered previously in this string.

READ THE THREAD. This is not a suggestion. Any further posts will be deleted unless you can prove that you have read the entire thread first. Lazyness really bothers me...
As for hovercrafts, if I were you I would start at howstuffworks.com , and then progresss to a Google search on "hovercrafts" and "hovercraft plans".
