I saw this on TechTV not too long ago. Very cool. I will have to read up on the website, because it sounds like a project I would like to do. The Segway is very cool (not really a transportation revolution, but cool nonetheless) but I can't justify the $5000 it costs....

I had an idea about a year ago to balance a scooter with just a big flywheel and gyroscope, but it might be a tad heavy and energy hungry.

If you could get your hands on one of those camera gyroscopes...I think they run for $50? the rest would just be the motor and batteries. you could probly get a pic to controll it

There was actually an ongoing project in Poptronics magazine a while back where one of the authors made a bipedal walker robot. It wasn't terribly robust, but it could walk around on flat surfaces without falling over. He just used a couple pressure sensors in the feet to help the pic know where the legs were. It was a 'chicken-walker' (reversed knees) too, like many MechWarriror designs. He had to use a hell of a lot of servo motors though.
