Hi, Great Forum!

I have a question about how u would send something over the phone-line when you're connected. This circuit would be connected to to the phone-line. The thing sent could be anything from tones to pre-recorded messages.

Thanks

Ahh, a telephone? Do you mean raw data? A modem would be needed for that. It would be cheaper to buy one than acutally make one. MS-DOS 6.0 has a utility that allows you to connect right to another computer via phone line. You can chat, send data, even program a simple mulitplayer game! All phone costs still apply. 1 minute of datatransmition=1 minute of talking. Have fun!

In general all you need is an isolation transformer connected in parallel with the phone line. If you pull apart an old style phone you'll see how simple it actually is. You will also need a relay so that you can connect and disconnect this transformer from the line to put the phone on and off hook.

You can try using DTMF to send signal or data over the telephone line.
A decoder can be at the other end of the telephone to pick up the signal.
