Skirts can be made of almost anything. Vynal shower curtain is popular. My last hovercraft used inner tubes from huge crane tires.

Might be able to find one at a local scrap metal yard (think Junkyard Wars). Failing that, surplus places often have them. Failing even that, automotive cooling fans (the mechanical type, not electrical) move a TONNE of air. As a last resort, you can make one out of hard oak by carving it yourself. But this could get dangerous if it is made unbalanced and flies apart.

UH-6F Trainer... you would have to buy the plans but that would be part of the cost under 500... that would be about 25.. You could most definitly build it for under 500

Can you use a reg fan to power a hover craft or do you need a stronger fan and how powerful does it need to be (rpm,hp, so on and so on) I need it to be able to keep me and a steering fan up sould i use two fans to lift me up or one and what should i use for the skirt it most be lite to cause its a science project and if i win i might have to bring it threw the airports and on the plane to travel to the reginals by the way your site rocks

I would imagine that one automotive cooling fan will be enough to move a hovercraft at a decent speed. If you want to go fast, start looking at ultralight properllers or props specifically designed for the thrust engine of a hovercraft.

Any ways i forgot a couple things the hover craft must be all electric, i have a budget of 50 - 100 dollars canadian and as if that wasn't enough i live on an island in the arctic so we have no scrapyards (acctualy we have a dump nearby and we can get stuff for free if we mannage to find anything) and no good stores so this project is like junkyard wars with no junkyard

what about an airconditioner blower, that would probably be the most eficcent in cpm and they are pretty light

The budget is too small...The batteries alone will run $300.
As for the air conditioner blower, they make great lift fans, but poor thrust fans. Lots of air volume, very little velocity.

what if you were to use a weed eater moter and have the shaft turn a blower, and then use a universal joint in between that and a fan for thrust that way it would provide directional thrust and you would only need one motor.

um would a couple of auto batteries work.
thanks for your ideas it helps alot and luckly im going out of town soon so i can buy the parts there shiping is expensive but my grandparents will pay and i will pay them back so i might buy some powerful electric moters and salvage some 12 volt batteries to charge.
One thing though is the skirt kinda like a blown up tire tube or is it different all help is great.

BEatonNo1: A weed eater engine is not powerful enough...At least a 3HP engine is needed, and even that is quite small. The thrust fan has to move a LOT of air at a high velocity. Ducted fan setups are ideal.
vegito025: Car batteries are not the correct type. You need deep cycle batteries that are designed to be deep discarged. Car type batteries (starting batteries) will only last about 8 cycles before they loose all capacity as their plates are too thin to stand up to deep discharges.
As for the skirt, shower curtain is idea. Inner tubes really don't work all that well.
