Hello can anyone of you guys n gals explain how this circuits works? like where does the signals pass thru etc.. i know it indicates when it is used but can anyone explain how it really works..??? thanks very much! have a nice day!

From memory,

The phone off the hook is about 1K of load, and drops the nominal quite a bit. So, by monitoring the voltage shift on the phone line you could detect the phone off hook.
