hey guys i was wondering how much hairspray should go into a cumbustion spud gun. the thing is ive heard diferent things like" empty a can of hair spray into the cumbustion chamber" and "remember to only spray 4 second of hairspray into the spud gun"
which quote is the correct one?

Ive found with my spud-gun, that instead of one continous shot for a few seconds, to do 3-4 short burst.... I couldnt get it to fire as well with one continous burst for 2-4 seconds... Only thing I could think of is the short time between allowed a little bit more O2 into the chamber... I dont know. So for me 3-4 shots at around 1/2 to 3/4 of a second.

Also, as far as brands, I perfer "White Rain" - Never had a probelm. Ive heard the cheaper the better, because of the more alcohol in it, but White Rain has been the best so far.

One thing to remember, the reason hairspray works as the combustible is that it uses butane as the propellant. I have found that buying a can of lighter refill butane and putting a spray tip on it works much better as it is all combustible.

Or you could plumb in a 1 lb. propane cylinder. Get a fitting to go on the cylinder followed immidiately by an open/close valve, run a length of braided steel hose ended by another open/close valve right at the combution chamber. open the last valve followed by the first one. Close the first one after about 5 seconds, then close the second one. Ignite, have fun.

Oh, for igintion, you could just use an old-school flint striker for a lantern. they work well and are dirt cheap.

Emptying a can wouldn't be dangerous. In fact, it would be quite safe because it would never ignite. Too rich.

i sort of disregarded the site cause i thought emptying a can of hair spray would be dangerous. thanks for cleaning that up

well I only use a couple seconds worth...where ever you heard that you should use a whole can...well they have problems. you can see the hair spray comming out as your spraying it in, so spraying a whole can would be an utter waste.
