After a trip to Lowe's for parts, I built a spud gun. Standard issue Grill Igniter, PVC, Hairspray spud launcher. My father in law, a gun expert and national champion competition shooter, told me, "Back then we used muzzle loader tater guns..." My gun would not work in that fashion. Anyone tried this style ??

Not sure I follow...Almost all spudguns are muzzle loaders. There are very few breach loaders around since the design is much more complicated.
