Hello i am building a go kart and i need to ordewr the sprocket tomorrow. The store has a 60 or a 70 tooth sprocket. Which one will work better on my 3.5 hp motor. The clutch has about 10 or 11 teeth. the 60 tooth sprocket is 7.38 inches in diameter and the 70 is 8.58 inches. The go kart will be about 300 lb with me on it. thx

Use the 60 on the axle and use either the 10 or 11 on the engine, then remove the govenor to get more rpm. removing the gov will get you about 1200rpm or ~6mph but will reduce engine life. 26mph may not seem like much but get in something that is 1" off the ground with no suspension and poor brakes and it's a lot more fun :)

You are right it is slow. What size sprocket should i use to go faster and to have enough power to start moving the kart without pushing it.

If your wheels are 10" and the back sprocket is 8.58" then you would only have about 0.7" ground clearance, once you put the chain on and sit in the thing the sprocket and chain may touch the ground. I would most definately go for the smaller of these two sprockets and keep away from bumps. The 3.5hp B&S engines rev to ~3800 so that would give you a max speed of ~20mph if the pinion is 11, and about 3mph less if it's a 10.

the wheels are 10 inches. I have no idea about the rpm maybe Aaron knows I have the same engine as his go kart.

What is your wheel diameter, is this a 2 or 4 stroke engine and do you have any idea what rpm this engine can rev to or what rpm it makes 3.5hp at?
