Me and my best friend have been bringing together ideas on how to build a semi automatic combustion spud cannon.
the main problem at this point seems to be ventilation, or rather getting rid of the "exhausted" gases.
Do any combustion spud gun enthusiasts have any ideas how this could be achieved?

The problem isn't how to ventilate the exhaust, that goes out with the spud. You need to figure out a way to get fresh air in the chaimber. You could accomplish that by hooking up a compressed air line that triggers at the same time as your fuel gas.

If you could attach a pressure regulated air hose to the chamber then after the gun fire the pressure in the chamber will drop which activates the hose which sprays in air or air and fuek then the potato drops in to the barrel and the pressure starts to build in the tank which evantually will shut the air off sort of like the float in a toilet tank the trick will be finding a regulator which will survive the combustion.

Suddenly I realize that I, like most of humanity, only know enough to be dangerous.

If you Make a steel cannon, you could use oxygen, (but with PVC its suicide), so you wouldn't have the problem of venting the cannon...
