I just finished the most unpleasant job on my car. After around 21 years of hard abuse done to my car, I replaced the transmission fluid filter and pan gasket. Now, this is a very straight forward job, and usually very easy. I just wanted to finish this so I could finally get it out of my garage and actually drive it. I would have pulled the car forward into the garage and got it done. But I figured it would be easier to just pull it forward onto ramps. This was when it wasn't raining. I pulled out the drain plug, drained it, pulled the pan, pulled the filter and took it to the auto parts store with me. This is when the drizzle started, then the rain, then I could have sworn it was hailing for hours on end. My yard floods pretty easily, especially near my garage. Lucky Me! I just wanted this thing finished, and tomorrow it is supposed to rain some more, and tomorrow, I have to work. The thing still doesn't shift correctly. I'm just going to save myself the trouble and drop it off at the transmission shop tomorrow. This was the first time in about 21 years (it's an 89) the transmission fluid was changed. I am so far happy because I feel like something is accomplished because it doesn't leak anymore.

If you don't have the time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?

If this really is the first time in 21 years the fluid has been changed, then the transmission is probably long past dead. The bands are probably burned up, as well as the friction material on the clutch plates.

Automatics suck.

I have never driven a car... Yeah I know.

In my computer games I always go for a manual gearbox. I love the control.

There's my 1 cent.
