I bought a 10 foot piece of black ABS for the Noisy Cricket spud gun. Only after I had it all assembled, did I notice that it was cellular core ABS. When I began to sharpen the end of the barrel, I noticed that it looked kind of sponge-like. Is this the wrong type of ABS to use for a spud gun, or is it ok?
Also, refering to the High Voltage Generator as the ignition source, is there a circuit that I could install after that which would make the spark pulse really fast? By fast I mean, like, times a second. I would like to do this to enhance the burn even more than just a hotter spark. Or is the spark more than enough?
One more thing. How many amps does the generator draw? I have access to a 12 volt 7.5 amp battery. Would this work as the power supply?

No idea...100 degrees maybe? The high temps in a spudgun only last for half a second or so, which prevents the pipe from melting. Many shots in a row may warm up the pipe enough to soften it...

If it's SCH-40, then your probably fine. I've never had problems with ABS exploding, even when using an oxygen-propane mixture.

i have heard the same for abs. you could wrap chicken wire around it.

i dont think that u should use pvc. i've read that when a pvc cumbustion chamber explodes it send shrapnel everywere however an abs spudgun will crack into 3 or 5 plates

well celualr core abs will probably fail after the first couple of shots. i suggest pvc

Ok. No pulse then. The pipe does say SCH-40 on it though. And the sidewalls are roughly 3/16 to 1/4" thick.

I think you have the wrong pipe. You need SCH-40 ABS.

your battery is plenty of power. pulsing the spark doesn't neciscarily make it stronger, but putting a capacitor between th terminals does, you will need a very high voltage cap and a rectifier. here is how to hook it up
