Do you want to also be able to still pedal the bike, or just run it with the engine? |

Posted - May 01 2007 : 6:59:23 PM Any thing is posible but 20~50CC wont get your wood go kart moving fast heer are some pictures of ones that I own/have built the first one is a old push bike that I welded a lawn mower motor on to you simply push start it and hang on top speed was about 40kmh but it liked chugging up hills like a tractor or a honda xl250 hah second image is a close up of the motor on the bike and my milo tank. 3rd and 4th pic are of my 110cc go kart with 4 speed semi auto and high and low range. This thing is fast and the most fun I've ever had on a gokart I just gota keep the paint up to it I was riding it on the beach and smashed it in to the water
The last pic is of my first gokart had a 80cc 2stroke generator motor on it direct drive basicaly get in hold on for your life and get some one to push start you, What it really needes is breaks or at least a kill switch this cart was verry fast.

Posted - Apr 18 2007 : 7:21:59 PM Hey, i got a 30cc string trimmer motor. I wanna mount it onto a bike but heres the problem : the motor has a coil with a squared butt on either end that spins and there for spins the cutting edge...Whats the name of a part (if one exists) that would fit onto the motor and allow me to runn a gear off it instead of the coil?? |

Posted - Jun 17 2005 : 08:25:07 AM Hmm, i'd like to see how you make the crank clear the engine and what your idea of "nice" looks like, had no idea my bike looked awkward?

Posted - Jun 16 2005 : 8:56:17 PM when i would put the weed trimmer engine on my bike i put it in the middle of the frame so it would look nice.
i think putting a motor on the front tire would be awkward looking and i dont really like friction drive |

Posted - Jun 13 2005 : 8:54:23 PM I made my first electric bike using a ratchet on the front wheel, a bit more complex than a friction drive but it was definately worth the effort. In later years it ended up with a 43cc trimmer motor with tuned pipe and running methanol, sounded much like your average motorcross bike, borrrt. http://img118.echo.cx/img118/9279/346a5ho.jpg

Posted - Jun 13 2005 : 10:46:55 AM Years ago, I found friction drives to be very poor. Any amount of sand or moisture would make them slip, and the wear on the tire was unacceptable.
If you are going to put a trimmer engine on a bike, you need a very high reduction (about 40:1) from the engine to the wheel. This means finding a large sprocket for the back wheel of the bike. But other then that, it's straightforward. Just mount the engine and run the chain.
On a scooter, the small engines are much more viable. You still need a big reduction (20:1 or so), but since you have smaller tires, it doesn't need to be a drastic.
Here's a great scooter site: http://scooters.tziworld.com/
