Hi! Im concidering trying to build a non-cost go-kart.. I've got a B&S 3,5 Engine (vertical=/) But I think I might come up with an idea how to make it work anyway, or maybe you have some tips? And I'm wondering... Is it so that some of the vertical engines uses the blade as a flywheel? So that I can't remove the blade and then start the engine? I've heard someone saying that when they started their engine without a blade, it would be come unstabel, and maybe also dangerous!! Do you know anything about this? I started getting a little worried when I read this..

Btw. Nice site you got! Gives me a lot of inspiration and ideas=)

I tried it out... Started the engine without the blade... Actually, the engine which haven't started for over six months, started at once! I just let it run for a while, and then stopped it, and started it again. Now that I don't have the blade, and flywheel, it was different to start of course... It was lighter, and stopped quickly. But, when I tried to start it the third time, I got kickback... It was hard to start! I don't know how to handle this problem. Or will it disappear when I mount a cogwheel under instead of the blade?

There's nothing dangerous about running the engine without the blade. Some engines have lightweight aluminium flywheels and thus don't like to idle without the load of the blade. Some seem to work fine...You can always replace the flywheel with the cast-iron unit from the horizontal engine.
