I worked this up for a display for a radio device so just wanted something cheap and simple with low power consumption:

It's really simple. I hand wired it together using about 32 gauge strap wire. The switch SW1 will shift the whole display to the right so that you can read down to the 100Hz position on the LCD. Then if you need to read a frequencie higher than 9.9999 MHz you switch it back to view the upper digit.
