Hi,
I built the FM transmitter from http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/fmtrans.asp. It came together very quickly and works but has a few problems.

First, it is supposed to run off 9v for 300' range or 12v for 400' range, but mine does not work at all on 12v. The only component I substituted was the 5.6pf cap for a 5pf.

Also, it only goes about 30~40 feet rather than 300.

It also seems to be very sensitive to static. It doesn't work at all if I touch it anywhere. I tried putting it in a metal box with the antenna going out and insulated on the inside but it wouldn't work in there either.

It will only pick up my voice if its about 1 1/2' away, but that may be normal.

Any suggestions?

It is an extremely simple circuit so its radio frequency drifts all over the place and its sound is muffled.

Don't you think that a very sensitive home stereo tuner or car radio will have a much further range than a cheap clock radio?

Don't you think that an antenna the proper length (31.5 inches)on the transmitter and radio gives the max range when the antennas are parallel?

Maybe your 9V battery is dead. I don't know if it will survive a 12V supply.
