Ive got an annoying dish network receiver that likes to take over my phone line, but it has caller id so I want it to still show up on my tv, yet stop it from dialing out whenever it feels like. Any ideas of how to make a small coupler to limit it from dialing out and yet still bring in the caller id to the receiver? Thanks in advance.

I can't think of any on the top of my head. For it to see caller ID, it must see the data transmitted between the 1st and 2nd ring. Anything to prevent it from dialing out would stop the ring signal from getting through (it is a ~90VAC signal).

It depends on modem it has inside. Say, older modems had tworelays - one for offhook, one for caller ID. first could be removed. Mid-age modem might have a data transformer (remove) and separate callerID chip. New modem may have transmitting transistor which could be removed - and receiving part will still work. It is a tricky thing, anyway.

But, maybe if you just disable pay-per-view in main menu, it would stop calling out.
