I have a 400 watt, 36 volt DC bicycle hub motor, from Wilderness Energy Systems. The controller seems to burn up very easily. They replaced it free once, but now it's dead again. And they don't want to talk to me. Does anyone know of a way to beef it up?
Replace it. It's likely that there is no way to beef the existing unit up. There are many controllers on the market, but it really depends on your price range.
One can pay back the loan of gold, but one dies forever in debt to those who are kind. (Malayan Proverb) If the modulator blows so easy. I was wondering if it's possible that when I go faster than the hub can pull me, does it turn into a generator and screw up the works? Do you know of a alternative source for the modulator? Thanks, Ron

It should handle that just fine. Most controllers have "freewheel" diodes which absorb the "extra" power. Better controllers put it back into the battery.
I am not familiar with your specific controller, so I can't say for certain.
