Hi I am a new person when it comes to spud guns I would like to build one soon. What would be a safish fuel that has a small punch . I really just want to shoot light things so no one gets hurt. I have a perfect ignitor that creates a 15,000 volt arc so I think that would light the vapors. It runs of a 9 volt so I think it would be perfect. |

Some kind of commercial product that uses a flammable propellant is probably the safest and easiest fuel. I generally use Right Guard deodorant. A litle butane is also an easy fuel but you have to be careful not to crack a hot gun with cold gas. |

We always used hair spray its really cheap!!! Aussie Hair spray is like $3!!! Generally speaking the less expensive the hair spray, the more alcohol it contains that = more power! We use to launch potatoes into the air and we would try to catch them! The thing was that it would shoot them so high you couldn't really spot it until it was too late! Then we decided to just try and catch them by firing them at people. haha! One time it zinged by my friend head before he knew it went past him!
If i got your question right that is what we used.

I'd use propane, depending on the size of the gun, hair spray (white rain) EFFED up my chamber after 6 shots and it wouldn't fire without being mopped out. Propane... it's cheap, get hundreds of shots from a $3 canister, experiment, try 2-3 seconds first, another good fuel is "static guard" for clothes. I hear AXE deoderant spray is great, but at $3.33 for 4 oz, kind of expensive. MAPP and OXY are tempting, I just made a micro spud gun 6" x 3" combustion chamber, reinforced at both ends, necked down to 1", and a 1" x 36" barrel, will probably shoot spuds hollowed out for AA batteries, for added impact. (more crap to drag about, maybe a cordless drill and a sack of spent AA's :-P ) |

Personally I use a 50/50 mixture of gasoline and methyl hydrate, it takes a bit of a spark to get it ignited but if its atomized correctly ( you need a spray bottle) It pack one hell of a whallop. |
Suddenly I realize that I, like most of humanity, only know enough to be dangerous. |
