When activated by pressing a button, this time delay relay will activate a load after a specified amount of time. This time is adjustable to whatever you want simply by changing the value of a resistor and/or capacitor. The current capacity of the circuit is only limited by what kind of relay you decide to use.

Notes

  1. Email jawaharlal@excite.com with comments, questions, etc.
  2. To calculate the time delay, use the equation R1 * C1 * 0.85=T, where R1 is the value of R1 in Ohms, C1 is the value of C1 in uF, and T is the time delay in seconds.
  3. S1 may be replaced with an NPN transistor so the circuit can be triggered by a computer, other circuits, etc.
  4. Most any 6V relay will work for K1. If you use a large relay, you my need to add a transistor to the output of the circuit in order to drive the larger load.

I want to know how much volt and uf is C1 and R1 and I can use 12vdc relay for this time delay relayII and if I want for 10 to 15 second delay shut off it can be modified

Time Delay Relay I and Time Delay Relay II

I have viewed both of your circuits and I have a question. I need to make a time delay device that when I press S1 there is a 30 second frame of no output (0 volts) and after those first 30 seconds a 5 second output of 6-12 volts. Whether that'd be in a loop or 1 time only thing doesn't matter much to me. Is it even possible to make something like that happen using the 555 chip? I just wanted to ask before I start to make yet another circuit on my breadboard and find out that it was a waste of effort and maybe components. Here's a little graph I put together showing what I basically hope it'll do. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e123/uni_vision_tech/timedelay.jpg Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Bart K.

I need some relays that will turn off after 7 minutes on and soe that will come on for 20 minutes then shut off. Please let me know if you can help me and what the cost is. This will be for a small 9 volt load with only mm amps. Thanks Bert E-mail is: berthobbs@insightbb.com

Also to stop relay chatter when handling big loads on the relay, I would suggest a 27pf ceramic cap in parallel with the diode. Better still switch the relay with a transistor

The diode stops back emf which will destroy the relay or & the cmos chip
