For me, the highlight of AutoRama 2025 was the powder blue rotary '73 Datsun 1200 drag car. Rotary content at AutoRama is slim to none (which I am not faulting, as it is not really that kind of show) so to see one front and center was a nice surprise. I wasn't able to speak to the owners/builders so I am guessing here that the engine is a full bridge 13B, definitely on alcohol. Can't seem to find any footage of the car actually going down the track so it may have been built for show. Nice to see the interest from the other attendees. I admit that usually when there is a rotary I hang out and listen to the discussion around it. People seemed genuinely interested instead of just asking "Don't those blow up all the time?".
One of the featured displays was a local Mustang club. Not that I'm a huge fan of Mustangs however there was a lot of quality work displayed. Not just the standad carbureted big block drag swap that 90% 3rd gen Mustangs display at shows.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Opel GT is really growing on my. There isn't anything not to like: small, light, classic wedge, easy to work on. Especially nice because they take to modernization so well. The shape and proportions still look good today. A bit of a restomod with a modern suspension/drivetrain and you'd have a hell of a fun daily driver.
And speaking of Datsuns, when was the last time you saw a 1971 Datsun 510 wagon? Let alone with a very tidy Nissan SR16VE engine? At least, I think that is a SR16VE. I'm not up on Nissan engines.
Overall this was an excellent year for AutoRama but my god, was crossing the border a major pain in the butt.
